Margrete McConnell, age 99, of Marshall, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, November 20, 2017, at Heritage Pointe Senior Living Center in Marshall, Minnesota. Funeral Services are 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 26, 2017, at Hamilton Fuenral Home in Marshall. Interment will follow in the Marshall Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., Sunday at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall.

Margrete Augusta Dwire was born October 22, 1918, at home in Lynd, Minnesota to George and Bertha (Hempel) Dwire. She was baptized at the Lynd Methodist Church and attended school in District 2 through the 8th grade. She spent 2 years at the Lynd High School before helping her family on the farm.

Margrete was united in marriage to Maynard McConnell on December 27, 1936, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Marshall. The couple made their home in rural Arco and raised three girls: Shirley, Judy, and Phyllis. Margrete was a devoted farm wife and homemaker and she also served as the hospital cook for over 20 years. Maynard died in July of 2001. Margrete then retired and moved into Lyon County Apartments where she called home for the last 17 years.

Margrete was a proud member of Wesley (now, Cornerstone) United Methodist Church and served with Abagail Circle. Her enjoyments in life included quilting, rug weaving for over 25 years, dish towel embroidery, playing cards, bingo, and enjoying her motorhomes during 25 years of camping with family.

Margrete went to her Heavenly Home on Monday, November 20, 2017, 29 days after her 99th birthday. Blessed be her memory.

Margrete is survived by her daughters, Shirley (and Don) Friese of Balaton, Judy Busswitz of Adrian; 7 grandchildren, Jeanette (and Ed) Gilles of Shakopee, Greg Friese of Ward, SD, Kendall (and Tina) Friese of Forrest Lake, Doreen (and Ed) Dawson of Sioux Falls, SD, Judeen (and Dan) McEvoy of Worthington, Kyle Koch of Warroad, Mark (and Lisa) Koch of Ramsey; great-grandchildren, Bryan and Brenda Gilles, Joel and Tianna Friese, Michael Friese, Emanuel Turner, Chressie Mucke, Shaun and Travis McEvoy, and Mariah, Khloe, Addison, Brielle, Bennett, and Westin Koch; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Bertha Dwire; husband, Maynard McConnell; daughter, Phyllis Koch; son-in-law, Elwood Busswitz; and 7 siblings.
