Orville was baptized as an infant and confirmed in his youth at the Assembly of God Church. He attended school at Mineral Springs Country School and then helped his parents on the family farm. Orville enlisted in the United States Army, serving with the 7th Calvary, tank operator, and with the Military Police. After 13 months in Japan, he returned home and met Eunice Anna Stevens.

They farmed and ranched there for 48 years and raised 4 children: Charleen, Marla, Ronna, and Loren. The couple moved into Bowman in 1989 and then to Dickinson 9 years later. They moved to Fairmont, Minnesota, ten years later and then to Marshall in 2008. The couple shared over 68 years of marriage together.

Orville was a great herdsman, always valuing his heard of cattle and horses. He was named the Outstanding Conservation Farmer in 1989. He was a proud member of both the Bowman and Marshall American Legion, Mineral Springs Township Board, Assembly of God Church Board, Ellendale Trinity Bible Institute College Board, and the Gideon’s.
