History & Staff

We have years of experience caring for families, from all walks of life. Each family comes to us because they know we are leaders in our profession, dedicated to excellence in service, and have the highest integrity.

Our History

In July of 1986, Doug Hamilton and Dick Birk, as partners, built a new funeral facility in Marshall, MN and Hamilton-Birk Funeral Home became a reality. Doug was operating manager/partner from the start.  Dick and his staff at Birk Funeral Homes would aid in various duties as needed. In 2003, Doug purchased the business and became sole owner. Shortly thereafter, the firm name was changed to Hamilton Funeral Home.

Doug’s wife, Chari, and daughter, Elizabeth, joined the firm as office management and handle non-licensed duties.

Hamilton Funeral Home welcomed a second director, David Sprik, to the staff in 2006.  After 8 years of living and working in Marshall, David took a job with the McBride-Hantge Funeral Chapels in Glencoe, the hometown of his wife, Elly.  They gained many experiences there and gave the kids some quality time with their grandparents.  In September of 2014, Doug and Chari sold the business to David and Elly.  Doug  remains on staff and is an important part of our services.

We are also blessed to have Lee Raske and Jim VanHyfte join our team to help on services and with other non-licensed work.  Shortly thereafter, Janine Erickson anchored our team by managing our office alongside Elly.  Her son, Alex Erickson, works full time here in Marshall, but is a fully licensed mortician and is a welcome asset to help part-time as needed.

David, Elly, and our staff will continue offering Marshall and the surrounding communities funeral service with integrity. We promise compassionate, dignified and professional funeral care to each family we serve for many years to come.
