Agnes Schroeder, age 86, of Edina, formerly of Marshall, passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at N.C. Little Hospice in Edina, MN. Funeral Services are scheduled for 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 1, at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marshall. Burial will be in the Marshall Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 P.M. on Friday, November 30, with a 7:00 P.M. memorial service at the Hamilton Funeral Home. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Saturday, at the church.
Agnes Anna Jappe was born Nov. 16, 1921 to Valdemar and Anna (Rothe) Jappe in Lake Marshall Township, Lyon County, MN. She was baptized in their farm home and confirmed at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Marshall, MN. She attended School District 13, Amiret, MN and received her GED later in life.
As a young woman, her jobs included helping in private homes with childcare, cleaning, and meal preparation; retail sales; working in the Marshall schools with the school lunch program and as a teacher’s aide. During World War II, she helped her father and mother on the family farm.
Agnes was a member and actively involved at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, its Ladies Aid, and the choir. She also belonged to the VFW Auxiliary, the Marshall Senior Center and was a Meals on Wheels volunteer for many years.
Agnes and Clarence Schroeder were married Easter Sunday, April 21, 1946 at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church by Rev. E.R. Gamm. Their 58 years of marriage was characterized by working together, raising 3 children, wonderful moments of laughter and fun with terrific friends, and square dancing. In addition to her family and friends, Agnes enjoyed taking care of their home, music, sewing, gardening and visiting with friends.
Mrs. Schroeder was called home by her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, November 20, at the age of 86 years and 4 days. Her laughter, the joy of life heard in her voice, loving encouragement given to family and friends, kindness, peace and contentment with life, and wonderful servant heart toward all will be greatly missed by her family and those who knew her.
Agnes is survived by her children, Stuart (Deborah), Honolulu, HI, Pauline (Robert) Benedict, Valrico, FL, Charles (Pamela), Orono, MN; 7 grandsons Jason (Lora Jane), Eric, Jonathan, Marshall, Dillon, John and Will; 1 great granddaughter, Savannah; brother, Lars (Phyllis) Jappe, Marshall, MN and many nieces and nephews. Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, parents, and sister (Elsie Oftedal).
Memorials preferred to Christ Evangelical Church.
