Agnes Mary Van Overbeke

Marshall: Agnes M. Van Overbeke, age 78, of Marshall, passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at the Marshall Regional Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, November 24th at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Visitation will be 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with a 4:00 P.M. Rosary and 7:00 P.M. prayer service Friday at the Hamilton Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Agnes Mary was born on March 30, 1934 to Emil Paul and Alma Mary (Boudreau) Coudron in Stanley Township, Lyon County. She was baptized April 21, 1934, received first communion May 13, 1945 and was confirmed April 27, 1948 at The Church of the Holy Redeemer in Marshall. She attended Country School District 75 in Stanley Township through the 8th grade. In 1943, when Agnes was nine years old, their family home burned down and they lived in the brooder house until the new house was built.
On April 8, 1958, Agnes was united in marriage to Arthur James “Jim” Van Overbeke at The Church of the Holy Redeemer. After the couple’s marriage they lived in Clifton Township where she first had indoor plumbing. In 1965 they moved to the family farm where she resided until her death. Agnes was a wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister, and homemaker. The couple retired in 1997. Jim died on October 24, 2005.
Agnes is survived by her eleven children, Bernard, of Dubois, WY, Judy, of Sioux Falls, SD, Janice (LeRoy Sik and children, Ashlie and Andy), of Marshall, Karen (Daniel) Nucuta, of Scottsdale, AZ, Gary (Lori) of Marshall, Donna, of Marshall, Bonnie (Mike) DeNomme, of Mayer, Gerald, of Marshall, Carol (Todd) Cannon, of Mantorville, Monica, of Sioux Falls, SD and Mary (Chad) Johnson, of Midland, TX; 18 grandchildren, Monique (fiance Jimmy), Ian, Jason, Andrew, Diana, Raymond, Alaina, Spencer, Kaiden, Jordon, Stephanie (Max), Anthony, Derrick, Ashley, Nicholas, Courtney, Kathryne and Camden; one great grandchild; four siblings, Alice (Don) Schoenberger, of Thermopolis, WY, Melvin (Aloma) Coudron, Donald (Kathy) Coudron and Mary Ann (Don) Kor, all of Marshall; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy; her mother, Alma; her father, Emil; and her sister, Evelyn Demuth.
Agnes’ enjoyments in life were spending time with her family, gardening, canning, working on the farm, reading, sewing, and quilting. She particularly liked the color purple and the Fern Leaf Peony flower. She gave many of her quilts to her children and grandchildren and also donated some to various charities, including Heart to Heart, Prairie Home Hospice, and St. Ann's school.
Agnes was a member of the Marshall Area Senior Center, Threadbenders Quilt Club, NFO; and she also served on the Holy Redeemer Parish council. Agnes was a faithful and active member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church all of her life.
