Aileen Rowe, age 92, of Marshall, Minnesota, died on Saturday, September 26, 2020, at the Minneota Manor Care Center in Minneota. A Private Memorial Service will be held Thursday, October 1, 2020, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall. A public visitation will take place on Tuesday, October 6, 2020, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM again at Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall, Minnesota. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to a charity of your choice or to PEO, the Marshall Area YMCA, Prairie Home Hospice, or the American Cancer Society. Occupancy limits and social distancing must be observed throughout all services. Masks are required at all public indoor gatherings.

Aileen was the third daughter in three years born at home to Carlos J. Haug and Aileen Champion Haug in Houghton, Michigan. She graduated from Houghton High School in 1946 and then from National College located in Evanston, Illinois (now called National Louis University) in 1950.

Aileen took her first job teaching kindergarten in Portland, Oregon. She was there for two years and married Gordon Paterson. The couple moved to Minneapolis where she taught first grade for three years before moving to Marshall, taking leave from teaching to raise her three children: Bill, Sally, and Anne. Aileen returned to teaching in the mid-1960s primarily as a Title I (Chapter I) teacher, formally retiring in 1989 after 23 years in education. She continued as a substitute teacher for another ten years after retirement.

Aileen was a 60+ year member of Christ United Presbyterian Church serving in many capacities including Sunday School Superintendent. She was a Boy Scout Den Mother and also did summer day camps and overnights with girl scouts at Camden State Park. Aileen was a member of PEO for 60 years. She chaired the Marshall/Lyon County Library Board, organized and volunteered for Blood Drives, chaired the Lyon County American Cancer Society during the first - and several following - Relay for Life events, volunteered and was a Charter Member with the Weiner (now Avera) Hospital Auxiliary where she was a lifetime member and in charge of the scholarship program and the book sales section of the Thrift Shop.

Aileen married Ted Rowe on March 23, 1978. They had many common interests including card playing (primarily bridge), reading, and most notably traveling. They visited all fifty states expanding travel to visit over sixty foreign countries and all seven continents. She loved to ski cross country, ride bike and ice skate.

Aileen is survived by her husband, Ted Rowe of Marshall; son, Bill (Deb) Paterson of Willmar; daughters, Sally (Ron) Ingle of Glendale, AZ, Anne (Dale) Matz of Chehalis, WA; 3 granddaughters, Jennifer Paterson (fiancé: Yunior Sanchez Guillen) of Brainerd, Sarah (Cameron) Holm of Sacred Heart, Keesha Matz of Missoula, MT; grandson, Cody Matz of Chehalis, WA; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carlos and Aileen Haug; sisters, Barbara (Burd) Hikes and Jeanne (John) Cooper.
