Marshall: Dale R. Pegel, age 86, of Marshall, formerly of Brainerd, passed away at the Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall on Friday, December 31, 2010. Funeral services will be 12:30 P.M. Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at the Avera Morningside Heights chapel. Burial will be in the Marshall Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall. Visitation will continue at the chapel on Wednesday, one hour prior to the service. Dale Robert was born to Edward and Pearl (Johnston) Pegel on August 12, 1924 in Minneapolis, MN. He grew up in Minneapolis and later moved to Remer, MN. He was baptized in the Seventh Day Adventist Church in his youth. He moved to Brainerd and was married to Delores Stropp and to this union three children were born. They moved to Duluth MN where he worked at St. Lukes’s Hospital as an orderly, and later moving back to Brainerd where he worked for the State Of Minnesota. On June 19, 1960, Dale was united in marriage to Rachel Mae Amundson in Mankato, MN. They lived in Brainerd until the fall of 1961 at which time he had a choice of living in Duluth, Golden Valley or Marshall. They chose Marshall where he continued to work for the state as a heavy equipment mechanic He worked for the state for 34 years, retiring in 1986. One of his favorite past times was working in his shop doing mechanic work and other projects. He was deeply religious, compassionate and non-judge mental man who believed in and practiced his religious commitments. His family, church family and friends meant a lot to him. He dedicated his life to doing his Lord’s work including elder, deacon, Sabbath School teacher Pathfinder Club leader (a children’s club) in the Seventh Day Adventist church. He was a hard worker and yet took time to help many people. He was an avid gardener and bird watcher. He loved to travel and hiking mountain trails. He had a great love for music, playing the piano, accordion, guitar, mouth organ, singing and yodeling with Dr. Mike Lastine. After his retirement he spent time remodeling his home, hauling for a farmer, traveling, camping and spending time with his granddaughter, MiKayla. Two of Dale’s favorite sayings were “We’ll always leave the light on for you” and “Don’t Worry, Be Happy”. Dale passed away at the Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall on Friday, December 31, 2010. He had reached the age of 86 years, 4 months And 19 days. He is survived by his loving wife, Rachel of Marshall; seven children. Gaylan (and Kim) Pegel of Live Oaks, TX, Janice (and Tom) Borden of Merrifield, MN, Verna (and Bill) Mitchell, of Hutchinson, MN, Polly (and Tim) Kerkvliet of Hutchinson, MN, Jasper Pegel of Fairbault, MN, Sidney Pegel of Whitedeer, PA and Amy Pegel (special friend Brad Orth) of Marshall, MN; Many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren; two brothers, Neil and Dean Pegel of Walla Walla, WA; also many other relatives and friends.
