Daniel Mutai, age 29, of Marshall and formerly of Eldoret, Kenya, passed away surrounded by family on Thursday, August 25, 2016, at the Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall, Minnesota. Funeral Services are 2:00 PM Saturday, September 3, 2016, at Grace Life Church in Marshall. Interment will be at a later date in Eldoret, Kenya. Visitation is one hour prior to the service, from 1:00 – 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 3, 2016, at Grace Life Church in Marshall.

Daniel Kibichii Mutai, was born on May 14, 1987, in Eldoret, Kenya, East Africa. He was one of eight children to Bethwell and Rhoda (Kosgei) Tuwei. Daniel was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church in Eldoret, Kenya. He attended Ndaptabwa primary school and graduated from Wareng High School in Eldoret. In 2011, Daniel moved from Kenya to Minnesota and began work at Schwan’s as a machine operator.

On August 26, 2013, Daniel was united in marriage to Caren Kosgei in Marshall, Minnesota. The couple has two small children and they would have celebrated their third anniversary together.

Daniel was a faithful member of Grace Life Church in Marshall and was very active in the Kenyan communities in Marshall and greater Minnesota. He loved to watch movies, play basketball, and most of all – spend time with his wife and children.

Daniel died on Thursday, August 25, 2016, in Marshall, Minnesota, following a courageous fight with cancer. He will be dearly missed. Blessed be his memory.

Daniel is survived by his wife, Caren (Kosgei) Mutai of Marshall; children, Eve and Ethan of Marshall; parents, Bethwell and Rhoda Tuwei of Nandi County, Kenya; grandmother, Nelly Keino of Eldoret, Kenya; siblings, Kipkurgat Mutai, Jackson Mutai, Viola Mutai, Elijah Mutai, Rael Mutai, Priscah Mutai, Nathan Mutai; cousins, nephews, nieces, other relatives and many friends.

Daniel is preceded in death by three grandparents.
