David Franklin Allen

David Allen, age 61, of Marshall, passed away on Friday, October 3, 2008 at the Grand Itasca Hospital in Grand Rapids, MN. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 AM on Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Marshall. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 PM with a 7:00 prayer service on Tuesday, October 7, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, at the church. Burial will be in the Marshall Cemetery on Thursday. Online condolences may be submitted at www.hamiltonfh.com.
David Franklin Allen was born on March 27, 1947 in Marshall, Minnesota, to Franklin and Shirley (Halstead) Allen. He was baptized and confirmed at the Wesley Parsonage in Marshall. He attended Marshall area schools and graduated from Marshall High School in 1965.
On July 25, 1970, Dave was united in marriage to Lillian Helmbolt in Gary, South Dakota. He worked for Swift’s as a laborer before driving truck. He has been with Doug Bradley Trucking for 18 years.
Dave was a faithful member of Wesley United Methodist Church at the time of his death. His enjoyments in life included fishing, playing cards, cooking, quilting, and playing with the grandkids. He was also a member of the VFW and American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Lil of Marshall; children, StacEy (and Roger) Weets of Woodstock, Denise (and Michael) Versaevel of Marshall, and Brett Allen of Marshall; grandchildren, Erika Jo Weets, Bryce Weets, Alyssa Versaevel, and Shelby Versaevel; parents, Frank and Shirley Allen of Marshall; siblings, Philip (and Kim) Allen of Gilbert, Minnesota, Nancy (and Richard) Pagel of Vesta, and Steven (and Dar) Allen of Marshall; and many other relatives and friends. Dave was preceded in death by his grandparents, Allen and Opal Halstead and Ray and Edna Allen; aunts, uncles, cousins; and parents-in-law, Lloyd and Ileene Helmbolt.
