David John Bradtke Sr.

David J. Bradtke Sr., age 77, of Russell, passed away at the Avera McKennen Hospital in Sioux Falls on Sunday, June 7, 2009. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday, June 11, 2009 at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall. Burial will be in the Russell City Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 P.M to 8:00 P.M. David John Bradtke Sr. Was born to Carl and Lucille (Popowski) Bradtke in Tracy, on January 28, 1932. He was baptized, received First Communion and confirmed at Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ivanhoe. He attended Arco Public School. On October 6, 1950, David entered the United States Army and served his country until he was honorably discharged on October 5, 1953.
On October 31, 1953, David was united in marriage to Irene M. Voght at the Marshall Courthouse. David worked as a mechanic for Tholen Auto, did construction work for True Value and was a Maintenance man for the City of Russell. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening, woodworking and tinkering. He was a member of the Tyler Veterans of Foreign Wars and later transferred to the Marshall Veterans of Foreign Wars.
David passed away at the Avera McKennen Hospital in Sioux Falls on Sunday, June 7, 2009. He had reached the age of 77 years, 4 months and 9 days.
He is survived by his five children, Donald of Redwood Falls, Dale of Fridley, David Jr. of Russell, Karen Megovern of Tampa and Nancy (and Jeff) Gruendemann of Morgan; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Evelyn Serryn of Marshall; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Irene, on December 12, 2000; two children in infancy, Carolanne and Steven; great-granddaughter, Arrianne Cordova; great-great-grandson, Cayden Lynn Blokxzyl; and several brothers and sisters.
