Doris Elizabeth Hokins

Marshall: Doris Hokins, age 89, of Marshall, passed away at the Prairie View Health Care Center in Tracy on Sunday, March 18, 2012. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 24th at First Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Marshall Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Doris Elizabeth was born on May 3, 1922 in Balaton, Minnesota to parents Anton and Anna (Mattson) Miller. She was baptized and confirmed at Sillerud Lutheran Church. On February 24, 1944, Doris was united in marriage to Elmer Hokins in Sioux Falls, SD. They lived in Alvin, TX for a year while Elmer was in the Army. Following Elmer’s honorable discharge, they moved to Ellsborough Township and then to Clear Lake, SD where they farmed. In 1965 they moved into Ruthton. She loved children and although she was not blessed with her own she did foster care, baby sat for nieces, nephews and many friends. In her younger years she made beautiful crocheted items and many beautiful dollies. She and Elmer moved to Marshall in 1991 and enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening and going to the casino. Elmer passed away in 1997 and Doris joined him in death on Sunday, March 18, 2012. She had reached the age of 89 years, 10 months and 15 days. She is survived by a brother Darrell (and Jeanie) Miller of Burnsville, brother/nephew Donald (and the late Gail) Dahlstrom, many nieces, nephews, great nephews, great nieces; also many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Elmer; three brothers; and five sisters. Blessed be the memory of Doris E. Hokins Please designate memorials to Prairie Home Hospice.
