George Lee Johnson

Marshall : George L. Johnson, age 74, of Marshall, passed away at the Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center on Thursday, May 3, 2012. Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 8th at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Marshall Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service Monday at the Hamilton Funeral Home. Visitation will continue at the church on Tuesday, one hour prior to the service.
George Lee Johnson was born on January 14, 1938 in Flemington, West Virginia to parents Albert and Blanche (Fowler) Johnson. He was baptized as an adult at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He graduated from R-W High School in Clarksburg, WV. He entered the United States Navy in 1958 and served his country until his honorable discharge in 1962.
On May 13, 1978, George was united in marriage to Florence Koopman in Marshall. They made their home in Marshall where George was employed at PPG for 34 years, retiring in 1989. George’s enjoyment in life was doing things with his family. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, doing crossword puzzles, exercising at the Y and having coffee with the boys at HyVee.
George passed away peacefully in the arms of Jesus at Avera Marshall Regional Medical on Thursday, May 3, 2012. He had reached the age of 74 years, 3 months and 30 days.
He is survived by his wife, Florence of Marshall; two sons, Jason and Eric (and Sarah) Johnson both of Minneapolis; two grandsons, Blake and Devin, and one grandchild on the way; four sisters, Martha, Joann (and Jimmy) Fugo, Barbara (and Arden) Lynch, and Annis (and Gene) Papa all of Clarksburg, WV; a brother, Johnny (and Twila) Johnson of Clarksburg, WV; also many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother. George was a faithful member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church at the time of his death.
