Hardin Harvey Kindler

Hardin Kindler, age 94, of Lynd, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2014, at St. Anthony Park Home in St. Paul, Minnesota. Funeral services are Saturday, October 18, 2014, 11:00 AM, at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Marshall, with interment following in the Lynd City Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, October 17, from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall with a prayer service at 7:30 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Saturday, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, at the church. Hardin Harvey Kindler was born on November 14, 1919, in Lyon County, Minnesota. He was the son of William H. and Meta Ida (Becker) Kindler. Hardin was baptized on August 3, 1924 at the Lutheran church in Balaton and was confirmed as an adult at First Lutheran Church in Marshall. He attended country schools as his family moved around until 1933. They settled in Lynd and Hardin graduated from Lynd High School, class of 1939. He went on to work farm jobs as a laborer. Hardin enlisted on April 22, 1942, and served in the Army during WWII. He received his honorable discharge on December 3, 1945.
On June 4, 1949, Hardin was united in marriage to Arla Mae Evenson at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Vienna, SD. The couple was blessed with three children, Judy, Jim, and Bob. They shared over 53 years of marriage before Arla died in April of 2003.
Hardin worked at Nicholson Hardware and Lumberyard, at the original Lyndwood Park and Ballroom, and as a school bus driver. In 1959, Hardin was appointed by President Eisenhower as Lynd Postmaster and retired in 1987. He was a member of the Marshall American Legion Post #113 and Marshall VFW Post #742. Hardin also served on the Lynd school board, Lynd city council, and as an election judge.
Hardin enjoyed sketching, woodworking, auctions and garage sales, fishing, playing cards, traveling with his family, spending summer days at the lake.
Hardin died on Sunday, October 12, 2014, at the age of 94 years, 10 months and 28 days.

Hardin is survived by his 3 children, Judy (John) DeCramer of Marshall, Jim (Yumiko) Kindler of Lauderdale, MN, Bob (Laurie) Kindler of Albert Lea, MN; 3 grandchildren, Karilyn (Matthew) Lund of Coon Rapids, MN, Krisann (Ryan) Durbin of Bay City, TX, Mae Kindler of Lauderdale, MN; 3 great-grandchildren, Damian Durbin, Ian Lund, Ila Lund; sister, Esther (Roland) Peters of Marshall, nephews, nieces, other relatives and many friends.
Hardin is preceded in death by his parents, William H. and Meta Ida Kindler, and wife, Arla Kindler.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Stephen Lutheran Church or Prairie Home Hospice in Marshall.
