Hazel Emily Walden, age 91, of Marshall, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2014, at Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall. Funeral services are Thursday, October 16, 2014, 2:00 PM, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Balaton, Minnesota, with interment following in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM and the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall with a prayer service scheduled for 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Thursday, one hour prior to the service, at the church. Hazel Emily Beers was born on May 21, 1923, in Hopkins, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Myron and Virginia (Ming) Beers. Hazel was baptized as an infant and confirmed in her youth in the Lutheran Faith. She attended school in Hopkins and graduated with the Hopkins High School class of 1942. She went on to nursing school in Minneapolis and then worked as a registered nurse until 1950.
On June 8, 1950, Hazel was united in marriage to Kenneth Walden at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Hopkins. The couple then moved to Balaton and farmed there until 1970. Hazel and Kenneth then moved to Marshall. The couple was blessed with two children, Merry and Craig. They shared 45 years of marriage before Kenneth passed away in 1995.
Hazel was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church and also an active circle member at Zion Lutheran Church. She was a Sunday school teacher, member of the Ladies’ Aid, and active in bible studies. She volunteered at thrift shops, enjoyed sewing, cooking and baking, crossword puzzles, wintering in Texas, and traveling all around the world. Hazel truly enjoyed her work, being a farmer’s wife, and spending time with family.
Hazel Walden died on Sunday, October 12, 2014, in Marshall, Minnesota at the age of 91 years, 4 months and 21 days.

Hazel is survived by her children, Merry Walden of Marshall, Craig (Margaret) Walden of Gilford, CT; granddaughter, Emily Walden; sister, Phoebe (Don) Stangle of Watkins, MN; sister-in-law, Geraldine Beers of St. Paul, MN; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Hazel is preceded in death by her parents, Myron and Virginia Beers; husband, Kenneth Walden; siblings, Jean Glubke, Lois (Don) Walden, and Phillip Beers.
The family invites everyone to the church basement following the services for a cake and beverages.
