Inez "Iney" Faye Hendrickson

September 8, 1930 — June 16, 2012

Marshall: A celebration of life for Iney Hendrickson of Marshall will take place on Saturday, June 23, at 11:00 with visitation beginning at 10:00, at First Lutheran Church in Marshall. Burial will take place in the Marshall Cemetery.
Iney passed away surrounded by her family who loved her very much on Saturday evening, June 16, at Morningside Care Center where she had been receiving therapy for the past 2 ½ months. Her goal was to be home soon.
Iney was born to Arthur L. and Kaisa (Anderson) Bagne in Glenwood, MN, on September 8, 1930. She was baptized and confirmed at Glenwood Lutheran Church. She graduated from Glenwood High School in 1948 and was named Homecoming Queen that year. She attended St. Cloud Teachers’ College, graduating in 1950. She taught 4th grade in Danube, MN, for the next few years.
She married Weston B. Hendrickson on March 13, 1952, at Glenwood Lutheran Church, and when Wes returned from active Army duty they made their home in Marshall.
She and Wes had four children; Jill (and daughter Zoey) of Gainesville, FL; Susan and husband, Joseph L. McVicker of Cary, IL (son Ryan of Lacrosse, WI; daughter Erin and husband, William Taylor of Phoenix, AZ; and Joseph W. of Cary, IL); son Gregg who passed away in 1998; and daughter Beth and husband, Donald Vangsness (twin sons Jack and Karl) who live in Fargo, ND. Iney enjoyed being at home when her children were young, but later worked part time at Discovery Center Preschool and Daycare Center.
One of her greatest gifts was connecting with and teaching children. She loved music and dancing all of her life. She remained very busy, volunteering as a Sunday School teacher at First Lutheran, Brownie and Campfire Girl leader and was a member of Eastern Star. She cared for Wes during his illness and death in 1981, and son, Gregg, for a large part of his 15 years of disability and death in 1998. She also was very close to the Halgerson family, caring for Lindsey and Lauren as preschoolers and after school.
In recent years, she volunteered at the Avera Hospital Thrift Store, belonged to her church circle and quilting groups, and played in two “500” card clubs and one bridge club. She loved to walk for exercise and could often be found walking in the neighborhood or with friends at the “Y.” She, her sister, Peggy, and numerous friends enjoyed meeting for coffee often.
Survivors include her children, Jill, Susan, and Beth; six grandchildren; two sisters, Genell Grund of New London, MN, and Peggy Friberg of Marshall, formerly of Tracy, brother-in-law, Gary Hendrickson (Clarine) of Moorhead, MN, her aunt Rena Bagne of Ortonville (104), and 11 nieces and nephews and their children, and several cousins who grew up together with her in the Glenwood and Starbuck area. Also special friends to Iney were Sue Redding, who has gone over and above in supporting Iney and her family and has been like her 4th daughter for many years, and the Halgerson family who have been so supportive and loving. Our mother loved being with other people and had many friends, all wonderful supportive people during her illness.
In addition to her husband and son, Iney was predeceased by her parents, her oldest sister, Phyllis and her husband Richard Thompson of Glenwood, brothers-in-law Doug Grund and Chuck Friberg, sister-in-law Betty (Hendrickson) and husband Leroy Kaiser of Danube/ Osakis, and nephew Jimmy Grund.
Her family wishes to thank all of our family members and friends, staff at Marshall Avera and Mayo/St. Mary’s, the incredible caring staff at Morningside, and Dr. Willett for their compassion and support.
She was surrounded by love; now may she rest in peace.
