Marshall: Jacob “Jake” Hanson, age 33, of Marshall.Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 2nd at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Marshall. Visitation will be 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service Monday and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in the Florida Lutheran Cemetery in rural Canby. Jacob (Jake) Jon Hanson Jake lost his courageous battle with testicular cancer on June 27, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN. Jake was born on December 3, 1979 in Canby to Jon and Sue (Angen) Hanson. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Canby and was currently a member of St. Stephen Lutheran church in Marshall. Jake attended Canby Public Schools, graduating in 1998. He continued his education at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall and received a degree in Elementary Education. He received his Masters degree in 2012. Jake began his teaching career in Edgeley, ND where he taught for 5 years. On June 23, 2007, Jake was united in marriage to Megan Mathern at Transfiguration Catholic Church in Edgeley. Following their marriage they moved to Marshall, Minnesota where Jake taught at Westside Elementary for 5 years. Jake accepted a position with Lakeview Schools in Cottonwood, Minnesota in August of 2012, where he was Dean of Students. He loved sports and coached football, basketball and golf while in Edgeley and Marshall. Jake was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. The love of his life was his family and spending time with them. Jake was known for his outgoing personality and quick wit which will not be forgotten by his many friends, students and family.
Jake will be deeply missed by his wife, Megan and three children: Madison, Carter and Noah of Marshall; his parents, Jon and Sue Hanson of Canby; sister, Jaime Hanson of Casselbury, FL; a special aunt, Cindy (Scott) Bredeson of Marshall; maternal grandparents, Harland and Violet Angen of Alexandria, mother and father in-law, Alan and Mindi Mathern of Fairmont; sisters in-law Kristin (Dana) Deacon of Slayton, Brooke (Travis) Strickland of Washburn, ND; nieces and nephews: Hunter, Kiara, Kyler, Jaden, Ava, and Kinzleigh.
