James Helmer was born on February 23, 1938 in Fairfax, Minnesota to Helmer Nordahl and Ella Marie (Nordstrom) Dale. He and his family moved to Lynd in 1944. He graduated from Lynd Public School in 1956. Following his graduation, Jim moved to Concord, California and worked in the orchards. Jim loved California but he loved Lillian more so he returned to Minnesota.
On August 31, 1957, Jim was united in marriage to Lillian Louise Serreyn at First Lutheran Church in Marshall. The couple bought a cute little house in Marshall and their one son Michael was born in Marshall. Jim was employed at Cattoor Oil as a bulk delivery truck driver and got to know almost all of the farmers and more. After a few years, Jim was able to find a farm near Lynd and began doing what he loved the most, FARMING.
Jim served on the Lynd Township Board for 19 years and township accessor, enjoying every minute of serving his community. He also served on the Building and Grounds Committee at W&I Resort in Mission, Texas, where Jim and Lillian spent the winter months for 20 years from 1980 to 2000. Jim retired in 1999.
Jim was a faithful member of the Living Word Lutheran Church and served on the Building Committee.
Jim is survived by his wife, Lillian, of Lynd; son, Michael (and Betty), of Lynd; two granddaughters, Jessica Amundson and Jenna Dale of Edgerton; and four great-grandchildren, Carter, Christopher, Camden and Payten.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ardys Shourds.
Jim loved his family, his farm, his dogs, his Living Word family and life. His hobbies included woodcarving, reading, hunting, walking, camping, checking out the neighborhood on his scooter and collecting antique tractors.
Blessed be the Memory of Jim Dale.
