Liola F Walder

Marshall: Liola Walder, age 89, of Marshall, formerly of Twin Cities, passed away at the Morningside Heights Health Care Center in Marshall on Monday, March 30, 2009. A memorial service will be held at Olivet United Methodist Church (43rd and Chowen Aves.) in Robbinsdale at 1:30 P.M. on Saturday, April 4, 2009. Private family burial will be at the historical Old Salem Evangelical Church in Inver Grove Heights.
Liola (Koelling) Walder was born on October 13, 1919 to Herman and Lucy Koelling near Ord, Nebraska and died at the Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall on March 30, 2009 at the age of 89 years, 5 months, and 17 days.
She graduated from Western Union College (later known as Westmar), LeMars, Iowa in 1942 with a certificate for Elementary Education of Intermediate Grades. She taught school in Merrill and LeMars, Iowa for three years.
While at college, she met her beloved Jerry (Reverend Gerald) Walder and they were married on July 20, 1946. Together they shared a remarkable ministry and faithfully served their Lord and various congregations throughout Minnesota for 42 years.
Liola was mother to two children – Keith and Connie – and a “second mom” to many of their friends and others she met along the way.
She is survived be her daughter, Connie (and Paul) Smisek of Marshall; granddaughter, Melaine Smisek of Marshall; sister-in-law, Carrie Walder; nieces and nephews; and countless others who called her friend.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; son, Keith; five brothers and sisters; and her parents.
