Lois Marie Miller

Lois Miller, age 94, of Hastings and formerly of Marshall, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at Regina Senior Living in Hastings. Funeral Services are 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 9, 2018, at Christ United Presbyterian Church in Marshall. Interment will follow in the Marshall Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Monday, at the church.

Lois “Lolly” Marie Wewetzer Miller was born at home near Three Mile Creek in Island Lake Township to Lewis Josiah Wewetzer and Hattie Marie Fixen Wewetzer on December 27, 1923. She grew up on Valley View Farm near Lynd, Minnesota.
Lois attended rural elementary school, Lynd High School (1941), and Ivanhoe Teachers’ Training (1943). A Lyon County spelling champion in 1936, she won a trip to the Minnesota State Fair. She was a member of the Island Lake Zeps 4-H Club and served as president. Lois was high school Carnival Queen in 1940, and class salutatorian upon her graduation. She continued her education with college courses while teaching and also later in life.

Lois taught country school for three years in Lyon County followed by 20 years as a stay-at-home mom. She held positions at Super Valu, Kelco Economette, East and West Side Elementary Schools, Marshall Middle School, New County Market, and Schwans Food Technology until age 75.

Lois married Howard Clinton Miller, October 25, 1946, at the Federated Church. They lived in Marshall and were parents to four children: Diane Saed (Farid) of Hastings, Minnesota, Sharon Arntsen (Thomas) of West Chester, Ohio, David (Connie) of Lakeville, Minnesota, Howard (Cheryl) of Merrifield, Minnesota. She had ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Lois enjoyed reading, going for walks, traveling to visit her children, visiting friends and family, being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. In 1991, she visited Canberra, Australia. Active with the Presbyterian Women many years, she served as secretary for three years, taught Sunday school, Bible school, and was a member of the Christian Education Committee. In 1992, she went on a mission trip to Sheldon Jackson College in Sitka, Alaska. Additionally, Lois served both as secretary and publicity chairman for the V.F.W. Auxiliary, and delivered Meals on Wheels.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; sisters, Lillian Jeanette Wewetzer and Audrey Gertrude Miller; brother, Lewis Eugene Wewetzer; and grandson, Ryan Joseph Miller.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Christ United Presbyterian Church or Prairie Home Hospice in Marshall are preferred.
