Lois Ruth Olson, age 68, of Cottonwood, passed away at the Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center on Wednesday, March 25, 2009. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Christ Lutheran Church in Cottonwood. Burial will be in the Christ Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 27, at Christ Lutheran Church in Cottonwood from 4 to 8 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. Visitation will continue on Saturday one hour prior to the service, at the church. Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall is handling the arrangements, 507-532-2933. Lois Ruth Aanerud was born on September 19, 1940 in Morris, Minnesota, to Oscar and Ruth (Stark) Aanerud. She was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Donnelly. She confirmed her faith at First Lutheran Church in Morris. Lois attended high school at West Central School of Agriculture in Morris. She attended the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis for two years.
On January 22, 1961, Lois married Kenneth Olson. The y couple farmed south of Cottonwood, Minnesota. She was also very active at Christ Lutheran Church as a Sunday School teacher, confirmation leader, and ALCW member and officer. Lois was active as a 4-H adult leader and was also a member of a Homemaker’s Extension Club for over 40 years.
In 1978, Lois was diagnosed with the chronic progressive form of Multiple Sclerosis. For the next 30 years, she dealt with challenges caused by the progression of the disease. In May of 2000, she moved s to the Minneota Manor. Lois was ever grateful for the wonderful care she received there.
Lois’ life was defined by her faith. She loved to talk about God’s grace and mercy to anyone that would listen. She was an encourager, a prayer warrior, and a powerful witness. Lois was a person who genuinely cared about each person she met, and loved to hear about their lives. Her family and friends will miss her joyous smile.
Lois passed away on March 25, 2009 at the Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center at the age of 68 years, 6 months, and 6 days.
She is survived by her devoted and faithful husband of 48 years, Kenny; three children, Sally (and Paul) Hanson, Anita (and Charles) Jackson, and Jonathan (and Carolyn) Olson; six grandchildren, Katrina, Luke, and Philip Hanson, and Anna, Christina, and Laura Olson; siblings, Shi (and Stan) Aamodt, Pauline (and Milt) Jellum, David (and Marlene) Aanerud, James (and Lorraine) Aanerud, and Annette (and Mark) Holtan; eight nephews and seven nieces; and many other relatives and friends.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents.
