Lorraine B. Janssen, age 85, longtime resident of Marshall, passed away at Edgewood Vista Senior Care in Brainerd, MN on Friday May 3, 2013. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 8th at First Lutheran Church in Marshall MN. Visitation will be 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Hamilton Funeral Home. Visitation will continue at the church on Wednesday, one hour prior to the service. Lorraine Betty Janssen, daughter of Otto & Frieda Preuss, was born on August 23, 1927 in Round Lake, Minnesota. She grew up in Fulda, MN and was confirmed at St Paul’s Lutheran Church, and graduated from Fulda High School. She and Edwin R. Janssen were married on October 20, 1946 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. They lived in Fulda until August of 1962. Lorraine was employed at the Janssen Garage & Implement Company in Fulda prior to, and following their marriage, until 1961 when the family business closed. They move to Marshall where she found employment successively with Weiner Memorial Hospital, Tholen Auto, and Bisbee Plumbing & Heating until her retirement in 1982. Lorraine was a faithful member of First Lutheran Church, where she served on the altar guild, communion assistant, morning greeter, counted offering, and as a part-time custodian. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, taking care of her small garden, playing dominoes, Hardanger embroidery, and square dancing. She was a member of the Jolly Mixers Square Dance Club of Minneota and the Wabasso Whirlers Square Dance Club. She was also a founding member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary Post 9017 in Fulda, MN. Lorraine was a devoted loving mother who will be greatly missed by sons, Dennis (Sandy) of Brainerd, MN, Ellard (Fabian) of New Bern, NC, and Myron of Princeton, MN; grandchildren, Melissa and Bryan Janssen, Tori Jo Kadera, and Casey McMindes; great grandchildren, Grayson & Jase Kadera and Peter Janssen. Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband Edwin R. Janssen; parents, Otto and Frieda Preuss; siblings Melva Marotzke & Norman Preuss.
