Russell: Marcella M. Bush, age 93, of Russell, passed away at the Minneota Manor on Monday, December 19, 2011. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December 22nd at the Grace First Parish in Russell. Burial will be in the Russell City Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service Wednesday at the Hamilton Funeral Home. Visitation will continue at the church on Thursday, one hour prior to the service.
Marcella Mae was born to Oscar and Bertina (Rasmussen) Hanson on September 19, 1918, in Coon Creek Township, Lyon County, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Presbyterian faith and graduated from Russell High School in 1934. Following graduation she worked at the Farmers State Bank in Russell.
On May 6, 1936, Marcella was united in marriage to Lloyd Palmer Bush at the Presbyterian parsonage in Balaton. In 1941 they started farming in Island Lake Township. They moved to Russell in 1980. Palmer passed away on January 22, 2003. Marcella moved to Boulder Estates and then to the Minneota Manor.
Marcella joined Palmer in death at the Minneota Manor on December 19, 2011. She had reached the age of 93 years and 3 months.
She is survived by her four sons, Lowell (Joan) of Lexington, KY, James (and Joan) of Plymouth, Leland (Pam) and Steve (Sonya) Bush of Russell; 11 grandchildren, Leslie (James) Buhler, Craig (Moria), James (Kelly), Valerie (Bart) Jensen, Susan, Janet, Stacy (David) Erdmann, Scott (Lindsay Baylon), Shelby (Matt) Thooft and Sandra (Harlan) Bossen and Susan (Tony) Renner; 14 great-grandchildren, Judith, Sarah, Caroline, Adam, Brandon, Brian, Brent, Madison, Mia, Katelyn, Ashlyn, Nicole, Nicholas and Gavin; and three great-great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Cassius and Liam.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Palmer; and daughter, Lanitta.
Marcella was a faithful member of the Grace First Parish, the UPW, circle, Bible study group, Russell Study Club and Eastern Star. After many years as a devoted farm wife and mother, her other enjoyments in life included dancing, playing cards, baking (especially caramel rolls) stitchery (needlepoint and cross stitch) traveling and wintering in Texas.
