Marie Walters, age 87, of Marshall, Minnesota, passed away on Friday, April 28, 2017, at her home in Marshall, Minnesota. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 5, 2017, at Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Marshall, Minnesota. A reception for attendees will follow in the church basement. Interment will be later that day in the Bethel Cemetery in Garvin, Minnesota. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 4, 2017, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall. A prayer service is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service, from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m., on Friday at the church.

Marie Geneva Walters was born November 10, 1929, to Benjamin Herchal and Anna Marie (Wing) Wilson in Lyon County, Minnesota. She attended school in Lynd, graduation from Lynd High School with the class of 1948.

Marie was united in marriage to Dave Walters on Mar 15, 1950, in Balaton, Minnesota. The couple lived and farmed in Sodus Township while raising 4 children: Merlin, Myron, Jack, and Jan. Marie was a farm girl for over 51 years, but she also worked as a waitress and bartender at Club 59 and the Corner Bar in Marshall. She finished her career as a cook in the Schwan’s Training Center before retiring. She moved into Marshall in 2001, after David passed away.

Marie was very active at the Senior Center, participating in many activities there and throughout Marshall. She was member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church, the Garvin American Legion Auxiliary, the Marshall VFW Auxiliary, and the Tracy Eagles. Her other enjoyments in life included making her famous potato salad and bread pudding, baking, and billiards – known as “Ma” by many, she was active in Ladies League and also Mixed Doubles with Dave. She loved to support her family and was involved in many family activities, from sporting events to horse shows.

Marie died Friday, April 28, 2017, in Marshall, Minnesota, at the age of 87 years, 5 months, and 18 days. Blessed her memory.

Marie is survived by her sons, Myron (Bonnie) Walters of Faribault, Jack (Denise) Walters of Woodbury; 9 grandchildren, Melissa (Tom) Evenson, Michael Walters, Troy (Wendy) Walters, Tosha (Fred) Brandenburg, Tanecka (Greg) Poe, Daniel Walters, Derek (Shelbie) Walters, Dale Walters, Matthew Walters; 17 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Glen (Peggy) Wilson of Willmar, Marvin Wilson of Grandview, Ron (Linda) Wilson of Red Wing; sister, Doris Danderand of Klamath Falls, OR; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Herchal and Anna Wilson; husband, Dave Walters; son, Merlin “Stubby” Walters; daughter, Jan (Jerry) Olin; infant grandson, Terry Olin; and 6 siblings.
