Services for Marty Hanson, M.D., 59, of Marshall will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Marshall. Burial will be in the Marshall Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service Tuesday at the Hamilton Funeral Home. Visitation will continue at the church on Wednesday, one hour prior to the service. Marty passed away at the Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center on Friday, June 22, 2007.
Martin “Marty” Emer Hanson was born to Emer and Marian (Huselid) Hanson on March 28, 1948, in Appleton. He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in luverne. He graduated from the Hills-Beaver Creek High School in 1966. He went on to Augustana College graduating in 1970 with a B.S. degree in Chemistry. He then entered the University of South Dakota Medical School in Vermillion and transferred to the University Of Minnesota.
On June 2, 1972, Marty was united in marriage to Paulette Klanderud at the Eastside Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. In 1974, Marty received his Medical Doctors degree from the University of Minnesota. He did his three year Family Practice residency at Smiley’s Point Clinic in Minneapolis. In December 1977, he and his family moved to Marshall where he practiced medicine until he retired in 2000.
Marty was a faithful member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where was in the choir and the chairman for the Evangelism committee at the time of his death. He also was a choir member at First Lutheran Church for many years. He also was a volunteer for the one-to-one program.
Marty’s first loves were practicing medicine and playing golf. He also enjoyed camping at the lake with his family. His other enjoyments were surfing the Internet, sending and receiving e-mails, writing opinion editorials, playing the piano and stargazing.
He is survived by his wife, Paulette of Marshall; his three beloved children, April Hanson of Minneapolis, Joshua Hanson of Fargo and Christina (Steve) Johnson of Duluth; a brother, John (Shirley) Hanson of Minneapolis; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Rapp.
