Mary Ann Jane Wagner was born to John and Myrtle (Osborn) Wagner on December 25th, 1927 in Benson, Minnesota. She graduated from Appleton (MN) High School in 1945. In 1946, she wed Galen Werpy in Madison, MN where they lived for many years and where all six of their children were born. In 1969, they moved to Marshall, where they had lived since.
Mary was a member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church for 38 years. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and was an avid bridge player. Her children will long remember her insistence that, despite her own birthday being on Christmas day, the focus of the day’s festivities had to be on the kids. Mary’s sense of humor, warm welcoming of people she would meet along the way and her passion for celebrating special occasions will be greatly missed.
Mary is survived by all six of her children, Barbara (and Gerald) Hallaway of Cottage Grove, Susan (and Orlin) Bruss of Marshall, Deborah (and Douglas) Rome of Eagan, David (and Melissa) Werpy of Stillwater, Pamela (and David) Miller of Alexandria, and Todd (and Marcy) Werpy of Decatur, Illinois; fifteen grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren (with yet another already on the way!) She is also survived by and greatly missed by her loving older sister and best friend Wanda (Harlowe) Hendrickson and her dear younger sister Donna Mae Theusch.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Galen Werpy and by the loving parents she missed so much throughout her life, John and Myrtle Wagner.
Blessed be the memory of Mary Werpy
