Mathilda Syverson

June 30, 1910 — February 6, 2012

Mathilda Syvereson, age 101, of Marshall, passed away on Monday, February 06, 2012 at the Clarkfield Care Center in Clarkfield.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 10, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Hamilton Funeral Home. Burial will take place in the Marshall Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday beginning at 10:00 am until the hour of services at the funeral home. Condolences can be sent to www.hamiltonfh.com
Mathilda Elizabeth Schmidgall, the daughter of Charlie and Carrie (Sturm) Schmidgall was born on June 30, 1910 in Cleveland Township, Lyon County, Iowa. She was the oldest of 13 children. On October 8, 1928 she was united in marriage to Louis Luedke in Morris, MN. They were later divorced. On June 19, 1982, Mathilda was united in marriage to Orning Syverson in Aberdeen, SD.
Mathilda was a supervisor for the Marshall Hotel for 21 years. Later she worked at Mike’s Café before her retirement. Mathilda loved to dance and listen to Lawrence Welk. She loved to play cards, sequence and scrabble. She loved chocolate covered peanuts and pretzels.
Mathilda is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Dale) Paul of Phoenix, AZ; daughter-in-law, Terry LeClair of Mountain View, CA; 4 grandchildren, Melissa Belzer, Michelle Holland, Mary Johnson and Rita Luedke; 7 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Anita Gayken of Montevideo, Doris Strom of Excelsior and Arlene Ohland of Alexandria; brother, Howard Schmidgall of Hanncock; and other relatives. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Robert Luedke; four brothers and five sisters.
