Services for Myron “Mike” Glen Hagen, 83, of Marshall, Minnesota, formerly of Hanley Falls, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 4th, 2014 at Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church in Hanley Falls. Visitation will be held at Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall, Wednesday, September 3rd from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with the Hamilton Funeral Home.
Myron, “Mike” Hagen was born August 12, 1931 in Granite Falls, Minnesota to Martin H and Lillie Sophia (Berg) Hagen. They resided on a farm near Hanley Falls. He was baptized as an infant and confirmed in his youth at his home church of Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church in Hanley Falls. Mike attended school at rural “Clearview” District #10, until he became the lone remaining student at the end of the third grade. He then continued his education at the Hanley Falls Public School.
On October 3, 1954, Mike married Gloria Catherine Nielsen at First English Lutheran Church in Marshall, Minnesota. They resided at the family farm where Mike was raised. Their marriage was blessed with 5 children. Mike sadly passed away just five weeks shy of celebrating their 60th Wedding Anniversary.
In 1955 Mike enlisted in the Army National Guard where he attained the rank of Sergeant. He worked as a pistol instructor and earned his honorable discharge in 1958.
Mike was an avid life-long farmer. He served for twenty years on the board of directors of the Hanley Falls Farmers Elevator and served on the Wood Lake Township Board for eight years. Mike also served on the board of deacons and the cemetery board at church. In 1995, Mike retired and mowed the cemetery grounds for another 12 years. In 2007, the couple moved from the farm to Boulder Estates in Marshall. He truly enjoyed his time there and developed many close and lasting friendships. Making friends was never an issue for Mike as he claimed strangers were just friends that he hadn’t met.
Mike loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He especially enjoyed attending their many activities. He was also very proud of his Norwegian heritage. He was a member of the Sons of Norway for many years. He twice had the opportunity to visit Norway and the homes of his ancestors and saw the value of knowing where you came from. Mike also valued the relationship that he had with his extended family in Canada and enjoyed many visits with them through the years. He truly enjoyed family reunions, visiting his cousins and having family picnics in the park.
Mike will be dearly missed by his wife, Gloria of Marshall; children, Michael (Donna) of Burnsville, MN; Cindy (Denny) Lundy of Cottonwood, MN; Richard (Linda) of Hanley Falls, MN; Douglas (Barb) of Hanley Falls, MN; Nathan (Maria) of Brooklyn Park, MN; grandchildren, Christina (Chad) Wermager of Waukee, IA; Justin Hagen of Bloomington, MN; Brianna Hagen of Burnsville, MN; Ryan Naab of St. Louis Park, MN; Jesse (Andrea) Naab of Eden Prairie, MN; Travis (Chelsey) Naab of Chaska, MN; Grant Hagen of Fargo, ND; Michelle Hagen of Minot, ND; Andrew Hagen of Fargo, ND; Martin Hagen of Sauk Centre, MN; Hannah Hagen of Hanley Falls; Ethan Hagen of Brooklyn Park, MN; great-grandchildren, Stephen Wermager of Waukee, IA; Abigail Wermager of Waukee, IA; Jackson Naab of Eden Prairie; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Lillie Hagen and his brother, LeRoy Hagen.
