Nina M. Engum

Marshall: Nina Engum, age 93 of Marshall, passed away at the Park River Estates Care Center in Coon Rapids on Wednesday, October 19, 2011. Celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 22nd at the Hamilton Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Nina Mildred was born to Olaf and Carrie (Pearson) Johnson on March 7, 1918 on the farm in Fountain Prairie Township of Pipestone County, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at the English Lutheran Church in Lake Benton, and graduated from Lake Benton High School in 1936.
On May 27, 1939, Nina was united in marriage to Arden Engum. To this union three children were born, Richard, Nanci and Cary. Nina and Arden made their home in Marshall, where she was an active member of First English Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 113 Auxiliary, worked at Kay’s Shoe Store and was a dental assistant in Dr. Carrow’s office for 12 years. Nina loved to cook, clean, and bake. She always had cookies, pies and cakes in her freezer for any company that would stop by.
Nina moved to the Minneapolis area when her health started to decline in 2004. She lived in assisted living until April 2006 when she was admitted to the Park River Estates Care Center in Coon Rapids. She died there on Wednesday, October 19, 2011. She had reached the age of 93 years, 7 months and 12 days.
Nina is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Nanci (and John) Miller of Fridley, son, Cary (and Phyllis) Engum of Green Valley, AZ, daughter-in-law, Marcia Engum of Casper, WY; four grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Arden; beloved son, Richard; sister, Esther; two brothers, Harold and Carl; three half-sisters and one half-brother.
