Marshall: Robert “Bob” Egly, age 79, passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at Avera Regional Medical Center in Marshall. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Wesley United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 4-8 P.M. Friday, November 11, 2011 at Hamilton Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. Burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. Visitation will continue on hour prior to the service at the church. Robert “Bob” LaRue Egly was born to Enise Adolph and Jennie Mae (Pettigrew) Egly on May 14, 1932 in Hot Springs, SD. Bob went to country school through 8th grade. He graduated Chadron State Prep school. He married Karen Stroom August 16, 1953. He joined the US Marine Corp and served two years during the Korean War. After military service they returned to farm the family ranch for several years then moved to Crawford, NE to raise registered Hereford bulls. He started college in Chadron, NE and graduated with a BS degree. He was granted a fellowship at Pittsburg State in Kansas where he graduated with his Masters. After a few years of teaching at Northern State in Aberdeen, SD he went to Michigan State University for his Ph.D. in East Lansing, MI all while beginning a 27 year career with Schwan’s Foods in Marshall, MN.
In his retirement years Bob and Karen enjoyed golf and traveling. He also enjoyed many years of wood working, fishing, and hunting.
Bob passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at Avera Regional Medical Center in Marshall. He had reached the age of 79 years 5 months and 25 days.
Bob is survived by his wife, Karen, of Marshall; four children, Ed (Kay) of Ramsey, MN; Rich (Eden) of Scottsdale, AZ, Noella of Parker, CO and Darrell (Gwen) of Delano, MN; seven grandchildren, Corinne, Amanda, Joshua, Nicole, Matthew, Julia and Nicholas; six great-grandchildren; brother, Don (Lucille) of Oelichs, SD; brother-in-law, Richard Schmit; and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Kathleen Schmidt and Enid Schmit.
