Selmer Elton, age 103, of Marshall, passed away Monday, August 6, 2007 at the Avera Morningside Heights Care Center. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, August 9, 2007 at Albright United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Lynd City Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with a 7:00 P.M. Prayer Service at Hamilton Funeral Home. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Selmer Elton was born to Ole and Sarah (Norlander) Elton on January 10, 1904 in Minneota, Minnesota and lived there for ten years. He was baptized at Hope Lutheran Church in Minneota and confirmed in Marshall 1945. He and his family moved to Litchville, North Dakota in 1914 through 1929 with the exception of two years in Chicago, Illinois. In 1929 he then moved back to the Minneota area where he farmed.
On October 19, 1929, Elton and Bessie Louise Corhouse were united in marriage in Minneota. They continued to farm and he went to work for McLaughlin & Schultz, retiring in 1969 after 33 years.
Selmer passed away Monday, August 6, 2007 at the Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall. He had reached the age 103 years, 6 months and 27 days.
He is survived by his four children, Darlene (and Dennis) Lemburg of Oakdale. Robert (and Sue) Elton of Greeley, CO, Betty Lou (and Les) Howen of Des Moines, IA and LeRoy (and Diane) Elton of Lynd; brother, Clifford (and Dorothy) Elton of Wells, NV; five sisters, Anna Jones of Ogden, UT, Clara Rockswold of Valley City, ND, Alice Bjornson of Valley City, ND, Gladys (and Win) Lindquist of Wells, NV and Edith Birch of Las Vegas, NV; eleven grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; thirteen great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bessie in 1982; infant son, David; three brothers, David, Oliver and Orvin; sister, Bessie Parke; granddaughter, Nancy Ramert; and great-granddaughter, Jody Turcotte.
Selmer’s enjoyments in life included hunting, fishing, baseball and softball, playing cards, harmonica and storytelling.
He was a member of Albright United Methodist Church in Marshall.
