Shane Alan Sanow was born on February 14, 1971, to Richard and Brenda (Rothmeier) Sanow. Shane was an older brother to Nichole “Nicky”, Elizabeth “Liz”, Michael “Mike” and Richard “Rick”. Shane went to school in Slayton where he graduated in 1989. After school, he served in the United States Army National Guard.

In 1997, Shane was united in marriage to Michelle “Shelly” Staples of Slayton. In this marriage, Shane was given the title of "Dad" with the birth of his daughter, Miranda. This union also included two step daughters, Samantha and Courtney Johnson. On June 19, 2010, Shane married Nicole Thiel of Redwood Falls. They made their home in Russell and were blessed with a daughter, Savanna, and a step daughter, Amber Knakmuhs. Shane was immensely proud to be a dad to all of his girls.

Shane was an avid outdoorsman. He spent his time hunting and fishing; he shared those hobbies with his wife, daughters, and brothers. Shane spent several years racing and he enjoyed motorcycle trips with Nicole. Shane was also known for his stories, each of which were told with enthusiasm and always came with gestures and sound effects. He was always the life of any conversation. Shane had a nickname for everyone, and they usually had one back for him. He would spend hours exchanging jokes and stories with friends and family. Shane's carefree outlook on life was contagious - he was always there to put a smile on the faces of those he loved.

Shane passed away suddenly in a tragic accident on March 18, 2021, at the age of 50 years, 1 month, and 4 days. Blessed be his memory and may he live on forever in our hearts.

Shane is survived by his wife, Nicole Sanow of Russell; daughters, Miranda Sanow of Lake Benton, Savanna Sanow of Russell, Samantha (and Josh) Hook of Russell, Courtney Johnson (and Paul Knorr) of Fulda, and Amber Knakmuhs of Marshall; mother, Brenda Sanow of Lynd; siblings, Nichole (and Gerald) Holmes of Russell, Elizabeth Sanow of Garvin, Mike Sanow (and Lacey Grant) of Russell, and Rick Sanow (and Darcy Nawrocki) of Marshall; grandson, Leo Kruse; 5 step grandchildren, Gavin, Gannon, Gage and Graham Hook and Oaklee Knorr; 14 nieces and nephews; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
