Weldon "Butch" Arthur Powelson

Weldon “Butch” Powelson, age 72, of Marshall, passed away Saturday, January 3, 2015, after a 7-month battle with cancer. He died peacefully at his home with family at his side. Funeral services are Wednesday, January 7, 2015, 1:00 PM, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall, with interment following in the Holland Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 6, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at the Hamilton Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:00. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Weldon “Butch” Arthur Powelson was born on July 30, 1942, in Pipestone, Minnesota. He was the son of Weldon and Gladys (Reimer) Powelson. Butch was baptized March 17, 1944, in Woodstock, Minnesota and he was confirmed Marsh 27, 1956 in Holland. At age 7, Butch moved from Elkton, South Dakota back to Holland, Minnesota where he attended county school and met Shirley Knutson. Butch graduated from Lake Wilson High School in 1961 and then farmed outside of Lake Wilson, where he was reacquainted with Shirley. Eight months later, the couple was united in marriage on August 31, 1963 in Holland. The farm was sold in 1967 and he started trucking. The couple lived in San Antonio, Texas, before coming back to Iona, Hadley, and then Marshall in 1969.

Butch drove for Marshall Fruit, Marshall Produce, Charlie Ziegenhagen, and Action Carriers. He retired in 1995 and worked part-time at the elevator.

Butch loved gardening, fishing, auctions, his sheltie dogs, and his work. He loved being around people, sharing at coffee time, and always had the fire pit going.

Butch died on Saturday, January 3, 2015, in Marshall, Minnesota at the age of 72 years, 5 months and 4 days. Blessed be his memory.

Ted (Shelly) Powelson of Camano Island, WA,
Kara (Aaron) Carter of Cibolo, TX;
12 grandchildren, Terry, Amber, Brittney, Eric (Jessica), Spenser, Dusty, Andy, Gabrielle, Cassie, Kayleigh, Malik, Makayla;
2 great-grandchildren, Madysn and Nolan;
nephews, nieces, other relatives and many friends.

Butch is preceded in death by his father, Weldon Powelson; and parents, Gladys and Vernon Krusemark.
