Arthur Eugene Cadwell was delivered by a midwife at the family home in Russell, Minnesota, to Ross W. and Nellie G. (Rask) Cadwell on July 15, 1930. He was a “special delivery” that she remembered every year on his birthday with a $1 bill through high school. He went to school for 12 years in the same school building and graduated from Russell High School in 1948. As a senior, he served lunch to the 2 young elementary teachers. The second-grade teacher was first year teacher, Ms. Muriel Norwood, who became his future wife. Art played basketball and football and was in the Junior and Senior class play. Before high school each morning Art worked at the hardware store as a janitor. After graduation, Art worked as a janitor at the bank.

In 1950, Art enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served as an airman first class. After basic training in San Antonio, Texas, he was sent to Biloxi, Mississippi, for training in radio operations.  Then he spent 17 days being transported by ship to Andrews Air Force Base in Japan where he served for 2 1/2 years as a radio operator during the Korean Conflict. While in Japan, he sang in the church choir and enjoyed playing tennis and seeing places like Mt. Fuji. Before leaving for Japan, Art had proposed to Muriel by giving her a dozen roses in a cedar chest she still has today.

Upon returning home, Art was married to Muriel on April 3, 1954, at the Marshall Methodist Church. After living in Empire, Michigan, for 5 months, Art was discharged and the couple returned to a farm near Marshall, Minnesota, where Muriel’s parents lived. They lived there until 1966 when they bought a nearby farm, where they lived for 54 years.  In 2018, at age 88, Art and Muriel moved to town.

Art worked primarily as a farmer and also held jobs at PPG, Independent Lumber, and at the MCP corn plant. He was a musically gifted guy! He sang in the church choir and was a member of the Marshall Men’s Chorus for 17 years. When a church band was formed, Art joined and played the drums or bass guitar with the various groups of people making up the Music Makers at church and entertaining at local nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and senior housing until 2021. He was a Sunday School teacher, a church board member, a member of the Oasis Bible Study group and the St. Andrew’s group. Art was also a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge. He was handy and his family counted on him to fix or build anything and everything as he enjoyed woodworking, making many things for his family - including a cedar chest for each daughter and grandchild when they got married. Art had a loving heart and a generous spirit and was willing to help others however he could.  His bright smile will be forever remembered by all who loved him.

Arthur is survived by his wife, Muriel Cadwell; 4 daughters, Janna (Craig) Cobb of Huron, SD, Maureen (Bruce) Stemme of St. Paul, Leanne Chesler of San Diego, CA, Denise (Aaron) Buesing of St. Paul; grandchildren, Mandi (Brian) Hicks, Ehren Stemme, Ryan (Angie) Stemme, Heather Stemme (Tait Johnson), Austin Stemme (Rachel Beckwith), Nicholas (Jennie) Cobb, Emily (Jesse) Langten, Karen (Jeff) Kennedy, Mark Chesler, Matt (Trang) Chesler, Seth Buesing; 18 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
