Brenda Marie Winter was born on June 4, 1960, in Marshall, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Melvin and Lois (Johnson) Winter. Brenda grew up on the family farm outside of Minneota. She attended Minneota school and graduated with the high school class of 1978 before meeting Doug Kleine at a local dance.
Brenda and Doug were united in marriage on August 22, 1981, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Island Lake Township, Minnesota. They made their home southwest of Marshall and farmed there until 2000. The couple raised three children while Brenda helped in the farming operation and worked caring for clients at R.E.M. About 25 years ago they moved a mile down the road to their current acreage. Brenda spent over 25 years at R.E.M. proudly assisting her clients with daily living duties prior to her retirement in 2020. In 2009 she was also proud to beat a difficult battle with breast cancer. Brenda and Doug spent just over 44 years of marriage together.
In 2013 they tragically lost their daughter, Melissa, to Angiosarcoma cancer and together Brenda & Doug built a beautiful memorial garden in her honor. Brenda's pride and joy was to keep it looking beautiful with different color Asiatic lilies along with angel and cross statues. She made it a point to always honor and celebrate Melissa. She actively decorated Melissa’s grave according to the season and enjoyed many specialty coffees in Melissa’s memory.
She also took pride & joy in her perennial garden, often mentioning that she needed to get out there to weed it after it rained because the weeds were easier to pull. Brenda beautifully decorated for every holiday, particularly Christmas. She had numerous totes of decorations, saying she liked to have a different color theme each year. Brenda was always on the hunt for a good bargain. She made many memories by taking multiple shopping trips with her mom, wherever it took them, rain or shine, snow or sleet, it didn’t make a difference, especially when they found bargains at 90% off. Much of her free time was joyfully spent with her grandchildren, always being supportive and engaged in their activities. Her other enjoyments in life included spoiling her grandkids, watching for Orioles and Cardinals at her many bird feeders, and annual fall camping trips with Doug to southwest Colorado, where she was always in awe of Colorado's golden aspen trees. She had been eagerly anticipating setting off on another adventure with the 5th wheel camper already out of the shed and packed, when unexpected heart complications suddenly developed ultimately leading to a heart attack that caused her unexpected passing.
Brenda Kleine went to her heavenly home peacefully on September 23, 2025. She reached the age of 65 years, 3 months, and 19 days. She will be missed greatly. Blessed be her memory. Brenda was preceded in death by her father, Melvin Winter; daughter, Melissa Joy Kleine; parents-in-law, Fred & Arlene Kleine and sister-in-law Delores Kleine.
She is survived by her soulmate, Doug Kleine of Lynd, MN; sons, Daniel (and Hope) Kleine of Volga, SD; Travis (and Chelsea) Kleine of Worthington, MN; 13 grandchildren; mother, Lois Winter of Minneota, MN; brothers, Craig (and Jean) Winter of Minneota, MN, Brian (and Sonia) Winter of Glyndon, MN; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
