Daniel “Dan” William Hisken, age 54, of Marshall, Minnesota, died unexpectedly of a heart attack on Sunday, March 15, 2026, while working in Marshall. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. next Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Living Word Church in Marshall, with a reception to follow. Visitation will take place from 5:00–8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 27 at the church. The evening will conclude with a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m., followed by time for sharing memories. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service, from 10:00–11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Please note the dates.
Dan was born on February 10, 1972, in Le Mars, Iowa, to William and Judith (Larson) Hisken. The family moved to Marshall shortly after his birth. He was dedicated as an infant and later baptized as an adult at the Evangelical Free Church in Marshall. Dan grew up in Marshall, attended school there, and graduated with the Marshall High School Class of 1990.
He continued his education in Jackson, Minnesota, earning an Associate Degree in Powerline Construction and Maintenance. Dan began his career in powerline work and construction before joining the family business in the late 1990s. He was proud to own and operate HCI Concrete with his brother, Todd. Dan also served his community through the Marshall Fire Department and the Marshall Football Booster Board.
On October 15, 2005, Dan was united in marriage to Leslie Kruger at First Lutheran Church in Marshall. They shared more than 20 years of marriage and raised three children together.
Dan was an avid outdoorsman who loved boating, camping, hunting, and especially ice fishing. Time spent at the family’s private pond was among his happiest moments, as being in nature brought him true joy. He cherished his Ford Broncos, his Chevy Suburban—affectionately known as the “White Chariot”—his trucks, and his gun collection. Dan enjoyed cooking, took interest in photography, and could happily spend hours visiting with anyone he met.
Dan was known for putting others first. Many described him as a mentor—friendly, patient, kind, passionate, and always willing to help. Above all, he was a devoted husband and father who provided a strong foundation for his family.
Dan is survived by his loving wife, Leslie Hisken of Marshall; his children, Derek, Emma, and Brooke; his father, Bill (Lucy) Hisken of Marshall; siblings Julie (Bryan) Ahmann of Marshall, Pam (Rob) Gregory of Rochester, Mark (Sandy) Hisken of Willmar, Scott (Amy) Hisken of Willmar, and Todd (Greta) Hisken of Marshall; along with many nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and friends.
Welcoming Dan into heaven are his mother, Judy Hisken, and his grandparents, Emmanuel & Irene Larson and Harm & Fanny Hisken.
A memorial fund will be established to support the future education of Dan and Leslie’s children.
