Daniel Kreun, age 66, of Marshall, Minnesota, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at the Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center. A private family gathering will take place at a later date with interment in the Chandler Memorial Cemetery in Chandler, Minnesota.
Daniel Henry Kreun was born the 6th child, and first boy, to Henry and Ruby (Dierenfeld) Kreun. The couple was thrilled to have the first baby boy join the family to the extent that Henry drove through the neighborhood honking his horn to announce the arrival of his son!
Like his dad, Daniel had a very creative engineering mind and at three years old he observed a neighbor's self-propelled combine during the harvest and proceeded to tell anyone within earshot how that worked. Daniel continued as a teenager to draw up inventions of new farm machinery, some of which have since become reality. He won several trophies at the Leota Labor Day Pony Races and spent many hours on his motorcycle. Daniel made his confession of faith at the Chandler Reformed Church and he worked for various area farmers as a farmhand before graduating from Southwest Christian High School with the class of 1974.
Daniel went on to take agricultural classes at the Jackson vocational school and worked on a combine crew, harvesting wheat from Oklahoma up to North Dakota. He was promoted to crew chief of four combines late in his teenage years. During the summer of 1976 Daniel suffered a traumatic brain injury in a farm accident which caused a life spent dealing with various mental disorders.
Daniel loved driving his pickup through the country to watch the crops grow and mature, even though he was no longer actively able to participate in farming. Every time given the chance, he would gladly discuss tractors and agriculture with his caregivers. As his health began to fade and he needed more assistance with his daily care, Daniel moved to REM Southwest in Marshall in 2011.
Daniel Kreun died peacefully on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, in Marshall, Minnesota. He had reached the age of 66 years, 4 months, and 24 days. Blessed be his memory.
Daniel is survived by his sisters, Esther (and Bob) Graham, Laura (and Terry) Muller, Anna (and Don) Godeke, Karen (and Chuck) Dorner, Deborah Callahan; many care givers; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
