Delores Mae Koppien was born on November 18, 1927, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Berto and Lyla (Wickre) Koppien. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in her youth. Dee attended Sioux Falls Washington High School, graduating with the class of 1945.
On November 17, 1946, Dee married Ben Holm at the Lutheran church in Sioux Falls. The couple resided there until 1954 when they moved to Marshall, Minnesota. Dee stayed home to raise the 4 children she and Ben were blessed with. She found much fulfillment in being a homemaker and mother. She continued to love looking after babies all her life. Her children called her a good and loving mother; content to put others first and be in the background, always supporting them. Dee loved to help out in the kitchen whenever there was a gathering, whether it be church, family or friends. She loved quilting and reading and simply spending time with her family.
Dee was very involved in the First Lutheran community. She attended bible studies, was a circle member, part of the altar guild and active in WELCA. She was even the church secretary for a while. She was very passionate about her faith and kept that passion alive throughout her lifetime.
