Gail Nichols, age 66, of Marshall, Minnesota, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at Sanford USD Medical Center and Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. A memorial gathering of family and friends will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall.
Gail Marie Dirckx was born on July 13, 1959, in Marshall, Minnesota. She was the oldest child born to Lawrence and Mary (Engesser) Dirckx. Gail grew up in Balaton, Minnesota, where she graduated with the class of 1977. Gail then moved to Marshall and worked numerous jobs, including REM Services, where she truly enjoyed caring for people with disabilities. She later transitioned into housekeeping where she spent her remaining working years before retiring.
Gail enjoyed the simple things in life, like a long chat with friends, jigsaw puzzles, Sudoku/crosswords, game shows, spending quality time with her family and most importantly her grandson, Parker who was her whole world, and loved more than “all the fishes in the sea".
Gail Marie Nichols died on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She reached the age of 66 years, 9 months, and 2 days. Blessed be her memory.
She is survived by her daughter, Bobbi Jo (Chris) Ratajczak of Ghent; her pride and joy, grandson Parker Ratajczak of Ghent; siblings, Janice (Bill) Heern of Tracy, Julie (Drew) Engel of Marshall, Kelly (Ron) Johnson of Marshall, Renee (Terry) King of Mt. Lake; 6 nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Gail was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Mary Dirckx, and other relatives.
