Gary Paradis, age 70, of Marshall, Minnesota, died with family at his side on Monday, December 15, 2025, at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Memorial Services are 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall, Minnesota. Following a luncheon at the AmericInn Hotel in Marshall, interment will be at 1:00 p.m. in the St. Clotilde Catholic Cemetery near Green Valley, Minnesota. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 22, 2025, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall. The evening will conclude with a Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. followed by a time to share memories. Visitation will then continue one hour prior to his celebration, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, again at the Hamilton Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Prairie Home Hospice of Marshall (prairiehomehospice.org) or the American Heart Association (heart.org).
Gary Allen Paradis was born on July 3, 1955, in Marshall, Minnesota. He was the son of Wilfred Bruce and Shirley (VanOverbeke) Paradis. Gary grew up in the Marshall area where he was baptized, received first communion, and was later confirmed at St. Clotilde Catholic Church in Green Valley, Minnesota. He attended school in Cottonwood and then graduated from Marshall High School with the class of 1973. Gary went on to further his education at the Canby Technical College where he studied welding. Gary began working in and around St. Cloud, Minnesota.
On May 14, 1977, Gary was united in marriage to Susan Bitker at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. The couple made their home in rural Cottonwood for three years before moving to their current house in Green Valley. Gary and Sue raised a son and daughter as he worked for many years as a heavy equipment mechanic for both McLaughlin & Schultz, Inc. and Duininck, Inc.
Gary was a loving father who always put his family first. He treasured time with his grandchildren, especially watching hockey games. He was known to be incredibly handy and could fix anything around the house and Gary invested in a vast collection of woodworking tools to foster his creative side. He enjoyed being outdoors and spent time hunting, fishing, watching birds - especially the Blue Jays “duking it out”, and quenching his thirst with a cold Miller Lite.
Gary Paradis died on December 15, 2025, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He reached the age of 70 years, 5 months and 10 days. Blessed be his memory.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Susan Paradis of Green Valley; son, Dan Paradis of Anoka; daughter, Patti (and Ryan) Beernaert of Lynd; 2 grandchildren, Bentley Harrington, Addi Beernaert; mother, Shirley Paradis of Marshall; 3 siblings, Tim Paradis of Marshall, Lisa (and Jerry) Fischer of Hanley Falls, Craig (and Deb) Paradis of Marshall; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his father, Bruce Paradis; grandparents, Oscar & Doreen “Mums” VanOverbeke and Wilfred & Mary Paradis.
