Gladys Marie Jacobson

Gladys Jacobson, age 87, of Marshall, Minnesota, died with family at her side on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at the Prairie Home Hospice – McLaughlin House in Marshall. Memorial Services are 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 4, 2026, at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marshall, Minnesota. Interment will follow in the Marshall Cemetery. A reception for attendees will then be held back in the church. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 3, 2026, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall. Visitation will continue one hour prior to her celebration, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Friday, at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church or Prairie Home Hospice in Marshall.

Gladys Marie Nesteby was born on December 13, 1938, in Wabasso, Minnesota, to parents Elmer and Anna (Brey) Nesteby. She grew up in Marshall, Minnesota, where she was baptized, received First Communion, and later received her Confirmation at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. She graduated from the Central Catholic High School in 1957 and then found work as a waitress at the Atlantic Hotel and Marshall Hotel. Gladys soon met Mr. James Jacobson.

Gladys and Jim were united in marriage on October 16, 1959, in Marshall. The couple made their home on Walnut Street where they raised their family and lived for over 65 years. Gladys worked briefly at the local drugstore and fabric shop before moving to Carrow's where she did alterations. Gladys spent over 65 years serving neighbors and local businesses, namely Mr. Cool's, as a seamstress. She was a hard worker and spent the last 20 years of her career at BH Electronics before her retirement in 2003.

Gladys was very active in her church, Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she helped care for church paraments, looked after the bulletin board, and served with the Ladies Aid. Her interests included ceramics, knitting, crocheting, and traveling. While traveling, she took extensive photos and created photo albums to share. Gladys also enjoyed time playing Sudoku, Mahjong and doing word searches, crossword puzzles and Cryptoquip. Gladys always had a caring heart for others, as she babysat for neighbors and some local families. She always enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Gladys Jacobson died under the care of Hospice on Thursday, August 27, 2026, in Marshall, Minnesota. She reached the age of 87 years, 8 months, and 17 days. Blessed be her memory.

She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Jim Jacobson of Marshall; 3 children, Doug (Mona) Jacobson of Chanhassen, Dan (Karol) Jacobson of Marshall, Deb Jibben (Troy Nelson) of Osakis; 6 grandchildren, Kirsten (Alex) Zaepfel, of Pfullingen, Germany, Gunnar Jacobson (Eva Malone) of Huntsville, AL, Jordan (Michelle) Jacobson of Marshall, Nicholas Jibben of St. Cloud, Brandi (Cason) Schexsnayer of Sauk Centre, Devon (Carley) Nelson of Sauk Centre; 5 great-grandchildren (with another on the way), Piper Jacobson, Corryn Jacobson, Sophia Nelson, Ava Nelson, Lydia Nelson; 2 siblings, Robert (Rita) Nesteby of Camp Verde, AZ, Linda Ohman of Camp Verde, AZ; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Anna Nesteby, and 3 sisters, Lucille Larson, Martha VanLoy, and Helen Kerr.
