John Harvey Moberg was born on January 2, 1927, in Palisade, Minnesota. He was the eldest of 4 children born to John and Olga Carlson Moberg. Harvey lived on a farm near Arco, Minnesota, before his family moved to Marshall at age 8. He was baptized as an infant and confirmed in his youth.  Harvey attended school in Marshall, graduating with the high school class of 1945. He enrolled in the United States Navy to serve during World War II, leaving even before his commencement ceremony. He served as a signalman on a Naval hospital ship transporting wounded from Pearl Harbor to San Francisco. He returned in 1947 following his honorable discharge to live and work in Marshall.

Harvey immediately began working with his brother for their father with Moberg Oil & Moberg Transport Company. Harvey spent his career working alongside his family and took over the transportation division as owner and operator in 1963. Harvey never officially retired and continued to be an advisor for the company when he handed the reins over to his son, Doug, many years later.

Shortly after his return from his military service, Harvey met Ms. Vivian Sandquist and the couple was united in marriage on July 31, 1949. They had 3 children and spent 69 years of marriage prior to Vivian's passing in 2019. Harv and Viv were long time active members of First Lutheran Church and St. Stephen Lutheran Church. Most recently they had been faithful members at Living Word Lutheran Church in Marshall. They spent 38 years wintering in Hawaii where they called Kumulani Chapel their church home in Kapalua, Maui.

Harvey's enjoyments in life included fishing, hunting, camping, playing cards, dominoes, tennis, and boating excursions. He lead an adventurous life which prompted his desire to travel. He and Viv visited 47 US states, explored 6 continents and toured 40+ countries around the world.  When not traveling or working, Harv was very committed to those around him and he was extremely proud of his family.

Harvey was a faithful servant of God, devoted husband, inspirational father, loving grandfather, caring brother, and true friend to all who knew him. The Lord blessed him with an amazing life. We will always cherish and never forget the gift he was to us ❤️.

He is survived by his 3 children, Douglas Moberg of Spicer, James Moberg of Napili (Maui), HI, Barbara (Rick) Kompelien of Winona; 3 grandchildren, Alyssa Kompelien (fiancé, Cameron Backman) of Estero, FL, Nathan Kompelien of Anthem, AZ, Jordan (Christina) Petersen of Waipahu (Oahu), Hawaii; siblings, Gerald Moberg of Marshall, Richard (Marge) Moberg of Vinton, VA, Betty (David) Sprague of Bozeman, MT; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
