Jeanine “Jean” Barker, age 74, of Marshall, Minnesota, sadly passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2022, with family by her side at the Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center. Funeral Services are 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 28, 2022, at Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Marshall, Minnesota. Following the service, attendees are invited for a luncheon at the church. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 28, 2022, at the church. Interment will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 29, 2022, at the Rosehill Cemetery in Rockwell City, Iowa. Following the burial, attendees will be invited to a second reception.

In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to family as they will be dispersing funds to the Juvenile Arthritis Foundation, the Autism Society of Minnesota, and the Cancer Institute. Thank you.

Eva Jeanine “Jean” Maulsby was born on February 9, 1948, in Lake City, Iowa - the daughter of Ruhl and Mary Ellen (Bawden) Maulsby. She grew up on the family farm just west of Rockwell City, Iowa, and graduated from Rockwell City High School in 1966. Jean went on to attend Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, where she studied Textiles & Clothing. While at ISU she met her husband, Mr. James Barker.

Jim and Jean were happily married on November 29, 1968, in Rockwell City, IA. The couple was blessed with 6 children, 20 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. She also opened her heart and home to 29 foster children through the years. She was a loving wife, caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

Jean worked in the Lyon Co. Recorder’s Office for nearly 32 years. The last 24 years of which she was elected and served as the Lyon County Recorder. In 2001, she was recognized as Minnesota Recorder of the Year and then in 2005, she served as the president of the Minnesota County Recorder’s Association. Jean retired in 2010.

She was a faithful member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Marshall where she was active in the United Methodist Woman (UMW) group and volunteered on numerous service projects. Her hobbies and interests included arts and crafts, sewing, gardening, shopping and traveling. She especially enjoyed spending summers at the family lake home near Outing, Minnesota, where the door was always open for family and friends. Grandma loved s’mores and stories around the campfire. Her true passion was her grandkids and spoiling them in every way possible. She spent countless hours in gymnasiums, ball fields, auditoriums and churches attending the various activities that her grandkids were a part of. She loved her family!

She is survived by her husband, James Barker of Marshall; son, James Wayne (Jean) Barker of Cornell, WI; daughter, Melissa Barker of Forest Lake; son, Keith (Pam) Brockberg of Yankton, SD; son, Jeff (Renee) Barker of Brandon, SD; son, Jarren (Tasha) Barker of Lakeville; daughter, Ellie Shaw of Marshall; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many other family members and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents and brother, Noel Maulsby.
