Jerry Lee Rund

Jerry Rund, age 78, of Marshall, Minnesota, died on Friday, February 20, 2026, at Hospice of Murray County in Slayton, Minnesota. Memorial Services are 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 27, 2026, at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Marshall, Minnesota. Following interment in the Marshall Cemetery, a luncheon will be held back at the church. Visitation will be held two hours prior to his celebration, from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Friday, also at the church.

Jerry Lee Rund was born on April 26, 1947, in Marshall, Minnesota, to Clifford and Ruth (Nehrbass) Rund. He was baptized as an infant and confirmed in his youth at St. Stephen Lutheran Church. Jerry attended school in Marshall and graduated from Marshall High School with the class of 1965. He immediately left to serve his county in the Air Force during Vietnam. Jerry drove fuel tankers in Germany, France, and England while deployed.

In 1969 Jerry returned home where he met Ms. Karen Halter. The couple married on May 29, 1970, at St. Stephen Lutheran Church and made their home briefly in Westbrook, Minnesota. Jerry and Karen soon moved back to Marshall and welcomed their two children, Kimberly and Craig. The couple shared 47 years of marriage together before Karen’s death in 2017.

Jerry began working for Schwan’s in July of 1974. He spent the next 42 years driving truck for them. Even into retirement Jerry’s passion for driving continued as he drove for Southwest Tours and Southwest Coaches and Jerry also drove school bus and van for special needs children. He was a lifetime member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church, active in the Eagles Club, and participated for many years in Shades of the Past events. His interests in life included fishing, tinkering in the shop, listening to music from the 1950s and 60s, a good meal that included bacon, and watching The Rifleman on TV.

Jerry Rund died peacefully on Friday, February 20, 2026, with family at his side in Slayton, Minnesota. He reached the age of 78 years, 9 months, and 25 days. Blessed be his memory.

He is survived by his children, Kimberly (and Kerry) Ruppert of Currie, Craig (and Janeth) Rund of Marshall; grandchildren, Haylee Ruppert (Josh Anker), Zachery Ruppert, Katelyn Ruppert, Gerardo Esparza, Silvia Esparza, Thalia (and Eric) Sik; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Aiden, Oakland, Watson; sisters, Geneva (and Steve) Sykes of Minneapolis, Dede (and Vern) Napue of Minneapolis, Becky (and Doug) Krause of Ft. Wayne, IN; nephews, nieces, other relatives and many friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford & Ruth Rund, and his loving wife, Karen Rund.
