Marshall

JoAnn Jones, age 91, of Marshall, Minnesota, died on Friday, January 23, 2026, at the Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall, Minnesota. A private interment is scheduled for a later date in the Marshall Cemetery.

JoAnn Marliss Frank was born on May 8, 1934, in Canby, Minnesota. She was the daughter of John and Harriet (Hagen) Frank. JoAnn grew up in Canby where she was baptized as an infant and confirmed in her youth in the Lutheran faith. JoAnn graduated from Canby High School with the class of 1952 and it was there that she met her future husband, Mr. John Jones.

In 1952, JoAnn was married to John and they were blessed with five children. The couple and their first three children moved from Canby to Marshall in 1960 before making their home in rural Russell. In 1973, the couple and their two youngest children moved to a home outside of Northfield. In October of 2021, after living in Northfield for nearly 50 years, John and JoAnn moved into Hill Street Place in Marshall.

JoAnn and John loved RVing and traveling, fondly remembering their trip to Alaska. They also enjoyed sitting by the Mississippi River at Lake City and Red Wing and feeding the birds and squirrels there. In addition to being a loving homemaker and mother to her children, Joanne taught ceramics out of her home. Her passion for that medium was evident in her artistic nature and her many years helping others learn that craft.

JoAnn died peacefully on January 23, 2026, in Marshall, Minnesota. She reached the age of 91 years, 8 months, and 15 days. Blessed be her memory.

She is survived by her 5 children and their families, Jesse Jones-Flaschenriem, Jeffery (Mary DeLanghe) Jones, Joy Mercie, Jonica (Kirk) Shoger, Jay (Elizabeth Cleland) Jones; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, John and Harriet Frank, and husband, John Jones in 2022.
