Joseph Duane Benson

Joseph "Joe" Benson, age 67, of Balaton, Minnesota, died on Friday, July 10, 2026, at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Memorial Visitation will be held from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall. A Prayer Service will be at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a luncheon for attendees at the AmericInn Hotel in Marshall. Private interment will be at a later date in the Tracy City Cemetery.

Jospeh Duane Benson was born on September 3, 1958, in Tracy, Minnesota. He was the son of Dennis and Elvera (Donahue) Benson. Joe grew up in Balaton, Minnesota, where he also attended school. He was married 2 times and was proud to bring up 4 sons: Brandon, Ryan, Cody, and Kyle.

Joe lived in Redwood Falls for many years before moving to Balaton, where he called home for most of his life. He helped build the family home where he currently lived and that helped spawn his construction career. Joe spent many years at Schult Homes in Redwood Falls before starting his own business. Joe's Flooring served many clients in the area. Joe also worked for Tyler Lumber before health issues forced his retirement about 7 years ago.

Joe was a humble man who enjoyed the simple things in life. He took every opportunity to be outdoors and pursue his passions of hunting and fishing. Joe enjoyed a good cocktail here and there and always appreciated time spent with his sons. In retirement, Joe took up woodworking and honed his skill on cabinetry and building flower boxes.

Joe Benson died in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on July 10, 2026. He reached the age of 67 years, 10 months, and 7 days Blessed be his memory.

He is survived by 3 sons, Ryan Benson of West Fargo, ND, Cody Benson of Riverton, UT, Kyle Benson of Goodyear, AZ; mother, Elvera Benson of Balaton; and 7 siblings, Steve (and Marlene) Benson of Windon, Kathy Loftus of Balaton, Mike (and Julie) Benson of Balaton, Scott (and Stephanie) Benson of Balaton, Roger (and Shannon) Benson of Luverne, Lisa Driessen of Marshall, Paul Benson of St. Cloud; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Benson; son, Brandon Benson; brother, Stan (and LeAnn) Benson; and a niece, Deanna Davenport.
