Marlowe Johnson, age 83, of Marshall, Minnesota, died on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at the Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall. Memorial Services are 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 22, 2025, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall, Minnesota. Interment will follow in the Marshall Cemetery in Marshall, Minnesota. Visitation will be held one hour prior to his celebration, from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Monday, also at the Hamilton Funeral Home.
Marlowe Marvin Johnson was born on July 12, 1942, on the family farm outside Ruthton, Minnesota. Arriving quite early, he spent the first six weeks of life in the Tracy hospital before his parents were able to take him home. Marlowe was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in his youth at Peace Lutheran Church in Ruthton. He attended District 26 country school before briefly attending Ruthton High School. He was then called to work on his family farm and also helped on several area farms.
In 1966 the family moved to Marshall and Marlowe found work assisting on a chicken farm, later a fur farm, and also with a cleaning service in Marshall. As his health declined, Marlowe moved into Morningside Heights Care Center in January of 2021.
Marlowe was proud of his addiction recovery and spent a lot of time with AA, helping many others through their 12 steps and recovery. He earned over 35 medallions over the years and grew in his faith walk through that process. Marlowe was an avid fisherman who enjoyed catching all varieties of fish. He was known to spend time in the garden and appreciated all kinds of wildlife. Marlowe was also quite a conversationalist, willing to talk to anyone who would sit for a chat.
Marlowe Johnson died on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, in Marshall, Minnesota. He had reached the age of 83 years, 2 months, and 4 days. Blessed be his memory.
He is survived by a brother, Gary Johnson of Heron Lake; brother-in-law, Dan Sorenson of Ivanhoe; nieces, Sue (and Justin) Lamoire of Wood Lake, Kim (and Kyle) Pillatzki of Windom; good friend, Charlie (and Chris) Sanow of Marshall; other relatives and friends.
Marlowe was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Opal Johnson; sister, Judy Sorenson; sister-in-law, Judy Johnson; niece, Jackie Weinberg; and nephew, Ron Schilman.
