Mavis Walbran, age 84, of Marshall, Minnesota, died on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at Ava’s House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Private Memorial Services will be held at a later date.

Mavis Marlene Mayer was born on October 3, 1938, in Sibley, Iowa. She was the daughter of John Jr. and Elinor (Dagel) Mayer. She grew up in Sibley and attended Trinity Lutheran Church with her family where she was baptized and confirmed in her youth. Mavis graduated from Sibley High School with the class of 1955 and then went on to work in Minneapolis as a secretary for the StarTribune newspaper.

On November 27, 1956, Mavis was united in marriage to Robert Walbran in Sibley and the couple made their home in Sibley (IA), Worthington (MN), Sioux Valley (MN), and Fulda (MN) before settling in Marshall. She worked early on in a cafe and then moved on to secretarial work for the agricultural Co-op office and later Mavis and Robert farmed and raised hogs. They also owned the Silver Skate roller rink from 1978 to 1984 in Worthington and then after moving to Marshall, Robert and Mavis purchased ServiceMaster of Marshall and then also worked at Schwan’s. The couple then bought Bob's One-Hour Dry Cleaners which they operated until 1993. Lastly, Mavis also worked for Customer Elation prior to her retirement at age 70.

Her enjoyments in life always surrounded spending time with her family - especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She could often be found cooking, making coffee, or cleaning up around the house. When outside she enjoyed flower gardening, trips to the lake, and riding the jet skis and boats. Mavis also found time to travel and particularly remembered her trips with her B.E. friends.
