Mike Eugene Petersen

Mike Petersen, age 59, of Marshall, Minnesota, died unexpectedly on Monday, January 1, 2024, at his residence. Memorial Services will be 4:00 p.m. Monday, January 8, 2024, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall. Visitation will be held just prior to his celebration, from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. Monday, January 8, 2024, also at the Hamilton Funeral Home.

Michael Eugene Petersen was born on October 20, 1964, to Lavern and Elvira Petersen. He grew up in Currie, Minnesota, where he was baptized as an infant and later confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Tracy, Minnesota. Mike attended school in Currie through the 4th grade and then graduated from Tracy High School with the class of 1983. Mike then attended Mankato Technical College before returning home to help out on the family farm.

On April 27, 1995, Mike was united in marriage to the love of his life, Lynda Kay Stevens. The couple had three children: Devan, Nick, and Heather. Mike and family made their home in Currie for about 10 years before moving to Slayton. He briefly owned his own mechanic shop in Slayton but spent a majority of his time caring for his wife through her many health challenges. In 2015, Mike and Lynda moved to Marshall.

Mike was a family man through and through. Growing up Mike spent time with his cousins, nieces, and nephews going to the Marshall or Worthington drive in theater, the Jackson Speedway, and the Slayton racetrack on weekends. He loved his wife, children, and grandchildren unconditionally. Mike could often be found spending quality time with his wife and children and playing with his grandkids. He also enjoyed the dirt tracks races and working on many cars over the years.

Michael Petersen died unexpectedly on Monday, January 1, 2024, at his home in Marshall, Minnesota. He reached the age of 59 years, 2 months, and 12 days. Blessed be his memory.

He is survived by his 3 children, Devan Petersen (and Melanie Bitker) of Marshall, Nick (and Carol) Petersen of Wood Lake, Heather Petersen (and Jacob Boettcher) of Renville; 4 grandchildren, Bentley Petersen, Brody Lanners, Cooper-Dale Petersen, Memphis Petersen; mother-in-law, LeeAnn Stevens of Pipestone; sister-in-law, Sharon Petersen of Tracy; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Mike is reunited in death with his wife, Lynda; his parents, Lavern and Elvira Petersen; and siblings, Brenda, Gary, and Deanna; grandparents, Arthur & Ida Petersen and Marie & Dewey Sidles.
