Robert Edward Mohn was born on January 10, 1951, to Clarence and Nyla (Meyer) Mohn in Marshall, Minnesota.  He was raised and lived the entirety of his life on the family farm located in Vallers Township, just north of Green Valley. Baptized as an infant and later confirmed at Christ United Presbyterian Church in Marshall, Robert's faith held a special place in his heart.  He attended Cottonwood School District and graduated with the Class of 1969. He went on to study Animal Health & Care at SDSU in Brookings, SD. After his studies he spent some time working in Sioux City before coming back to work with his Dad on the farm.

Since he was a child, Robert had a passion for caring for animals. In particular, cattle and horses. He always had quarter horses until later in life, he developed an interest in raising Belgium horses. At one stage, he also had a little pony for each of his grandchildren. There were always dogs and cats on the farm. He also enjoyed feeding the wildlife about the farm - he learned that Blue Jays and squirrels enjoyed the cat chow, so he always ensured that he had the kind they liked.

Robert enjoyed the country life and growing up on the farm. He raised Purebred Polled Shorthorns alongside his Dad. He showed cattle throughout the Midwest, attending multiple State Fairs and Cattle Shows throughout the years.

He was a dedicated member of 4-H and took great pride showcasing his animals. He even met his wife through 4-H. On June 12, 1976, Robert was united in marriage to Ms. Elaine Myhre at the Hope Lutheran Church in Minneota, Minnesota. They made their home on Robert's homestead, and raised their three children: Jonathan, Matthew, and Krystal there.

Robert lived an active life and enjoyed playing basketball and softball, a member of the FFA, and riding his snowmobile. He even participated in some cross-country snowmobile races. He also enjoyed watching sports, in particular the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.

After many years in the cattle business, he transitioned predominantly into the Conservation Seed and Supply. Throughout his lifetime, Robert was an entrepreneur and focused on Native Grasses and Wildflowers. He was always grateful for all the wonderful employees that helped build the family seed business over the years.

He possessed extensive knowledge of Minnesota Native Grasses and Wildflowers. His passion for these native plants led him to play a pivotal role in the establishment of two Native Seed Associations that continue to thrive in the state of Minnesota to this day. He was instrumental in advocating for the inclusion of wildflowers in MN roadside ditches.

Robert had a genuine fondness for people and took great joy in fostering connections through events held at the farm. He had a remarkable talent for being a wonderful host, whether it was welcoming family and friends or organizing gatherings for the various organizations he was involved in, ranging from the Cattlemen Association to Special Events held on the farm. Robert's warm hospitality and knack for bringing people together have created lasting memories.

Robert found pleasure in delving into his ancestry, immersing himself in research and discovering his roots. One of the highlights each year was making the trip to the Mohn Family Reunion in Iowa to catch up with his cousins. Robert's love for classic Western movies was evident, as he found himself irresistibly drawn to the allure of these timeless tales, immersing himself in the spirit of the Wild West.

Music held a special place in Robert's heart, as he relished the tunes of Polka, Old Country, Bluegrass, and Old Country Gospel, embracing the melodies that resonated with him. Dancing brought him immense joy, particularly when accompanied by the rhythmic beats of Real Country Western music and Polka, sharing spirited moments on the dance floor with his beloved wife, Elaine. Moreover, Robert treasured his time with his grandchildren, finding joy in watching them grow.

Robert Edward Mohn died peacefully on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, in Canby, Minnesota. He had reached the age of 72 years, 5 months, and 18 days. May his memory be held dear.
