Verna Mae Engler was born on February 28, 1927 in Garvin, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Edward and Emma (Hanson) Graham. Verna was baptized in Lake Shetek while her family attended the Church of Christ in Tracy. Verna grew up in Tracy and attended Tracy schools through the 10th grade. She then went to work at the bakery. Shortly thereafter, she met a young soldier, Mr. Clarence Engler, who was on leave from active duty. The two stayed in contact and on February 5, 1947, they were united in marriage at the Church of Christ in Tracy. The couple lived and farmed near Westbrook until, in 1961, they moved to Edgerton to farm for 5 more years. In 1966, they moved to Marshall and have lived there since. Clarence and Verna were blessed with two children: Linda and Michael. They shared an amazing 68 years of marriage together.

In addition to being a dedicated homemaker and farm wife, Verna worked at Coast-To-Coast and the Red Owl Store in Marshall. She was a member of the Westbrook VFW Auxiliary, where she served as past president. She was also a member of the Rosehill Lutheran Church Ladies Aid.

Verna’s other enjoyments in life included baking and cleaning up the dishes afterwards, playing Bingo, her famous Christmas cookies and candy, and spending time with the family she loved so much.

Verna died on Thursday, April 23, 2015, in Marshall, Minnesota at the age of 88 years, 1 months and 26 days. Blessed be her memory.

Verna is survived by her husband, Clarence Engler of Marshall, children, Linda Heinrich of Dawson, Michael (and Deborah) Engler of Marshall; grandson, Aaron Lange of Dawson; sister, Dorothy Willems of Jordan; nephews, nieces, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Emma Graham; brothers, Jim, Albert, and Victor Graham; sister, Edith Maranell; and several nieces and nephews.
